Arriving at Tbilisi airport, meet the guiding and transfer to hotel. Overnight in the center of Tbilisi.
Today you will visit the old town of Tbilisi, a mixture of orient and occident. Sulfur baths, many old churches, mosques, the synagogue – all in the old town of Tbilisi. In the afternoon, continue walking through the famous plane tree avenue, Rustaveli Avenue. The main street with the theatre, opera house, national museum and then visit the new town and drive to one of the beautiful vantage points of the city. You will spend the evening together in a restaurant where you can enjoy Georgian dances and live music. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Our first stop is near Gori. Here you will visit the ancient cave town of Uplistsikhe. Afterwards, continue to the ancient capital of Georgia to Mtskheta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon you will visit two major sights, the Jwari Church and the Svetichoveli Cathedral, with an expert guide. Afterwards we go back to Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.
On the way visit of the Church Ensemble of Shuamta and the Academy of Ikalto. conn. we continue via Telavi to the German-Georgian winery Schuchmann. Here you will learn everything about Georgian viticulture and after the tour of the winery, a wine tasting will take place here. Then stroll through the Telavi market, which is well worth seeing. Overnight in Telavi.
In the 16th century Gremi was the capital of Kakheti until it was completely devastated by the Persian ruler Chess Abbas. In the small church you can admire beautiful murals. Afterwards drive to Alaverdi Cathedral, it is the second largest cathedral in Georgia. In the afternoon return to Tbilisi for overnight stay.
Continue to the village of Haghpat. Visit to the old monastery complex (10th-13th century), which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has beautiful cross stones. Shashlik Lesson in Haghpat Village: Here you will be welcomed by the chef who will tell you the secrets of shish kebab preparation. Continue to the famous spa town of Dilidjan. Overnight in Dilijan.
Drive along the lake shore over the 2400m high Selim Pass, part of the ancient Silk Road, with magnificent panoramic views. Stop at the small caravanserai Selim. Continue through a breathtaking landscape to Tatev Monastery (9th century). Visit to the monastery complex, a religious and spiritual center of ancient Armenia, impressively situated on a steep rocky outcrop above the mighty Vorotan Gorge. Ride in about 15 minutes with the new cable car (the longest cable car in the world at 5.7 km) near the village of Halidzor. Continue to Goris for overnight stay.
Continue over the 2344m high Vorotan Pass to Yeghegnadzor to the Noravank Monastery (13th century) in an imposing mountain landscape with bizarre rock faces. Visit to the restored monastery complex with several churches, including the multi-storey, richly decorated mausoleum church. Then drive to the Ararat plain to the most important place of pilgrimage in Armenia, the renovated monastery Chor Virap (4th-7th centuries). Here, according to tradition, Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned in a deep pit because of the spread of Christianity. Unique view of the Ararat (5165m), the holy mountain of the Armenians, lying on Turkish territory. Continue to Yerevan for overnight stay.
In 2018 Yerevan celebrates the 2800 year anniversary of the city. Visit to the Cascade, the great flight of steps, with a magnificent view of the city and Mount Ararat from the top (depending on the weather). Visit and expert guidance in the historical museum. Overnight in Yerevan.
Visit to the Church of St. Hripsime from 618, which is considered the most characteristic of all Armenian churches. Visit of the cathedral and treasury with old cultural treasures. Visit the partially restored ruins of the Zwartnotz (Angel House) Cathedral, a monumental round church from the 7th century. Back to Yerevan and then visit the park “Tsitsernakaberd” (Swallow Fortress), where the memorial to the victims of the 1915 genocide stands. Overnight in Yerevan.
Today it is a popular place of pilgrimage and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Concert in the Geghard cave monastery with sacred and traditional music. Drive into a beautiful hilly landscape to the Ionic temple of Garni from the Hellenistic period, built in the 1st century by King Tiridates on the edge of a deep basalt gorge. Back to Yerevan and expert tour in the scientific library Matenadaran with a valuable collection of ancient Armenian manuscripts, the oldest of which are from the 5th century. Farewell dinner and last night in Yerevan.
